At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one another. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. This negative outlook then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges and move forward.

Practicing positive thinking allows people with ADD to focus on our strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and motivation. This, in turn, allows us to spend more time making progress, and less time feeling down and stuck. The following tips provide practical suggestions that you can use to help you shift into more positive thinking patterns:

1. Take Good Care of Yourself
It's much easier to be positive when you are eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

2. Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Grateful For
Stresses and challenges don't seem quite as bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Taking just 60 seconds a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions
A fear of not being liked or accepted sometimes leads us to assume that we know what others are thinking, but our fears are usually not reality. If you have a fear that a friend or family member's bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Don't waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes
Have you ever told a partner "You're ALWAYS late!" or complained to a friend "You NEVER call me!"? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts
Your thoughts can't hold any power over you if you don't judge them. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it, and don't follow it.

6. Squash the "ANTs"
In his book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin', Touchin' & Squeezin' (Your Friends and Family)
You don't have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn't touch!

8. Increase Your Social Activity
By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Volunteer for an Organization, or Help another Person
Everyone feels good after helping. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination
If you find yourself ruminating, a great way to stop it is to interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Rumination is like hyper-focus on something negative. It's never productive, because it's not rational or solution-oriented, it's just excessive worry. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk or sit outside. You could also call a friend, pick up a book, or turn on some music.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up the entire thing to true productivity. When the Odds are Stacked Against You

Staying positive and goal-oriented is very easy to do when the going is good. The true winners in life are the people who can persist when times are tough and it seems the whole world seems to be totally against them. The real question is, how do you keep moving forward when the odds seem to be stacked up against you?

The first thing to realize when you are in this kind of situation is that EVERY person who has ever accomplished something of significance, was faced with a similar situation. This is a guarantee. The wealthy business person was broke and inexperienced at some point. The olympic gold medal winner was slow and clumsy in the beginning. The stage performer was in a low budget show forgetting her lines.

Some people must face greater hardships than others but no one is immune to it. And this is really the key to this lesson. If you are in a situation right now where it seems like quitting or defeat are your only options, here are some ideas you can use to drive yourself forward and keep going. Go to school on your leaders. No matter what you are trying to achieve, there is someone in the world who has very likely done it before.

Success leaves clues so your job is to become the investigator. Find out what made these other people successful. More importantly, learn about their hardships and how they triumphed when the odds were stacked against them. Then...realize that you have the exact same abilities as that other person providing you are willing to do the things that person did. Put it in perspective. A great example is someone starting out in business for themselves. Most businesses experience a pretty rocky road in their first few years. This also happens to be the period of time when many business owners give up. But when you put it in perspective, the hardships you are facing at the start of your venture likely pail in comparison to people with real challenges.

There are people struggling with addiction, physical handicap, family breakup and so on. There are people in these situations who maintain a positive outlook and still make the best of their life. If they can do it with severe problems, you can do it with relatively minor problems. Ask ask ask. There is the old saying ask and it shall be given. The saying contains a powerful truth. People who have become good at asking for what they want and need in life, tend to get more help from others.

When the odds are stacked against you, regardless of what you are trying to accomplish, there are people out there who will be willing to help if you ask them. If you are in need of help with money, resources, support, exposure or anything else, ASK. Ask a lot of people. Ask with conviction. Ask with passion. If you ask enough people...you WILL find the support. The key thing to remember in this whole discussion is that you are an achiever. If at any point in your life, the odds are stacked against you and success seems like a distant dream, you are doing something RIGHT. This is a sign of your courage, determination and persistence.

I am passionate about my goals.

My passion drives me forward to live the life of my dreams. I know what I want in life and I set goals to get me there. I know that each goal I achieve brings me in union with what I desire. I feel truly invigorated with each success!

A vision is an ambition that you create in your mind and aspire for it and plan for it from start to the end. It is this vision that drives you forward and aims your life with a purpose to strive ahead. It gives the power to achieve your ambitions and also inspires people around you with your positive mindset and drive to move forward.

But, how does one plan on developing a powerful vision and inspire their lives and the lives of others under its influence?

Think Ahead and Plan

If you have the power to dream, you can plan your vision to meet your goals. Think of how you are and how you want your future to be. You can create a vision not only to bring in power and success to your career but it can also work for your relationships and other aspects of life. When you think ahead and plan in your mind, you can create a vision. Let it be very specific and not something that is very vaguely pictured.

Think Positive

To develop a powerful vision, you need to develop a positive mindset. Unless you think positive, the actions or planning cannot happen in a positive manner. So, it is very essential to have a positive thinking in order to move ahead. Without positive thinking, there is no vision. Without a vision, there is no goal achieved in life.

Use the Power of Affirmations

Positive thinking and affirmation with a belief in yourself is very important to develop powerful visions and carry it forward to attain success. You need to have motivation and it should be constant and there is nothing better than the power of affirmations to help you get all the motivation you need.

Set Goals

Based on your vision, it is essential to set goals both short term and long term. It is essential to visit these goals often and check how many of them you have been able to achieve. If you have been successful in attaining your goals, celebrate it and take credit for it. This will help you remain motivated. But, at the same time, if you have not been able to achieve some of these goals, it is best not to lose heart but to see why you have not been able to reach these goals and look at how to strive towards reaching them.

Everyday life can become more than just monotonous….it can become downright dull and beyond boring. The very things that we dislike doing, such as a dead-end job, laundry, yard work, can become the very things that hold us back from doing the things that have the power to enhance our lives.

Instead of letting our lives become stagnant pools of emptiness while we yearn for something more, a plan of action is needed. This plan should not be the answer itself, but rather a tool to be integrated into your life that can manifest a positive zest for life deep into your life that eventually becomes part of who you are.

This wonderful little tool needs to include a few very important items. First and foremost, it needs to be realistic. If it is set beyond reasoning, then you are setting yourself up for failure which is what we are trying to avoid. The plan needs to revolve around your inner most desires that are going to provide motivation for you to want to spring into action in order to achieve your goals. And, of course, the plan needs to include a set of goals.

A set of goals can be a short, or sometimes long, list of action items that need to be firmly established. The key here is to stick with these goals and not be deterred. When you stop actively pursuing your goals is when you fall back into that dull and monotonous routine of nothingness. So keep motivated and continue trying to meet each of those goals.

Setting your goals is often the easy part. It is the road that must be traveled in order to accomplish those goals that can be difficult. Set down some strict guidelines on what is required to meet that particular goal. Outline every single little step if that makes it easier. Once you can visual the action that you need to take, it will be easier to actually make yourself take that action.

Try not to become discouraged. Every day can bring new challenges and obstacles. Do not become overwhelmed that these obstacles are permanent. Remember, if there is a will – there is a way. If those obstructions cannot be removed from your life, then your life can find a way around them.

Stay focused on what you want. Distractions are great as stress relievers from time to time, but they cannot be allowed to be the main focus of your life. Remain consistent with the steps it will take to meet your goals and stay motivated. Keep your eyes on the prize, and the prize will be yours in the end.

Welcome change. Do not resist it when something in your life begins to change. Change can be uncomfortable for us because it jerks us out of our comfort zone and into uncharted territory. No one wants to fall and get hurt. However, if you do not try then you will never know how well you could succeed.
