You now understand them because you have toiled, and you can afford to smile at such possible discouragement. You have paid an easy price for magnetic power, for the gains discount the pains.

The faithful observance of these suggestions has developed many surprises during the time occupied. Everything that happens to us happens in purpose. And sometimes, one thing leads to another. Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartaches, embarrassment and failures, treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in both self improvement and success.

I remember watching Patch Adams – its my favorite movie, actually. Its one great film that will help you improve yourself. Hunter “patch” Adams is a medical student who failed to make it through the board exams. After months of suffering in melancholy, depression and suicidal attempts – he decided to seek for medical attention and voluntarily admitted himself in a psychiatric ward. His months of stay in the hospital led him to meeting different kinds of people. Sick people in that matter. He met a catatonic, a mentally retarded, a schizophrenic and so on. Patch found ways of treating his own ailment and finally realized he has to get back on track. He woke up one morning realizing that after all the failure and pains he has gone through, he still want to become the a doctor. He carries with himself a positive attitude that brought him self improvement and success. He didn’t only improved himself, but also the life of the people around him and the quality of life. Did he succeed? Needless to say, he became the best damn doctor his country has ever known.

So, when does self improvement become synonymous with success? Where do we start? Take these tips, friends…
*Stop thinking and feeling as if you’re a failure, because you’re not. How can others accept you if YOU can’t accept YOU?

*When you see hunks and models on TV, think more on self improvement, not self pitying. Self acceptance is not just about having nice slender legs, or great abs. Concentrate on inner beauty.

*When people feel so down and low about themselves, help them move up. Don’t go down with them. They’ll pull you down further and both of you will end up feeling inferior.

*The world is a large room for lessons, not mistakes. Don’t feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed on a science quiz. There’s always a next time. Make rooms for self improvement.

*Take things one at a time. You don’t expect black sheep’s to be goody-two-shoes in just a snap of a finger. Self improvement is a one day at a time process.

*Self improvement results to inner stability, personality development and dig this …. SUCCESS. It comes from self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem.

* Set meaningful and achievable goals. Self improvement doesn’t turn you to be the exact replica of Cameron Diaz or Ralph Fiennes. It hopes and aims to result to an improved and better YOU.

*Little things mean BIG to other people. Sometimes, we don’t realize that the little things that we do like a pat on the back, saying “hi” or “hello”, greeting someone “good day” or telling Mr. Smith something like “hey, I love your tie!” are simple things that mean so much to other people. When we’re being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.

*When you’re willing to accept change and go through the process of self improvement, it doesn’t mean that everyone else is. The world is a place where people of different values and attitude hang out. Sometimes, even if you think you and your best friend always like to do the same thing together at the same time, she would most likely decline an invitation for self improvement.

We should always remember that there’s no such thing as ‘over night success’. Its always a wonderful feeling to hold on to the things that you already have now, realizing that those are just one of the things you once wished for. A very nice quote says that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” We are all here to learn our lessons. Our parents, school teachers, friends, colleagues, officemates, neighbors… they are our teachers. When we open our doors for self improvement, we increase our chances to head to the road of success.

Many a times, you may have heard people saying you to think in a positive note to get the outcome of things right. You may have wondered how to think positively when circumstances show negativity. To say, positive thinking depends on the practice and willingness to do so. Here are some steps that can help you to think positively even if you are a negative minded person.

First, every day when you get up in the morning, read or listen to some quotes related to positive thinking. Listening makes a greater impact than reading. You can hear these quotes in television and radio. You can also download them from the Internet. They are available in plenty over the web. In addition, you can always keep a book with you to read it any time throughout the day you want to. This is the first and basic to follow to bring about an optimistic attitude to you.

Second is always to speak in a positive tone. For instance, instead of saying, “The glass is half empty”, say, “The glass is half full”. This throws a positive impact on the listener’s mind and he or she gets the confidence to proceed further with challenges. Keep hope and believe in yourself to make a difference to your attitude. This works in favor of optimism.

Instead of accusing others or yourself for some failed work, take the responsibility to get out of the situation and achieve success. Blaming only lead to more failures, negativity and fear in yourself. Therefore, take the stride as to why the things went haywire and seek the solution to reorder things once more. The faster you learn to do this, the greater things will start happening in your favor.

Do not let negative emotions surround you. For example, you may have failed in your exam. It is definite that you will get upset and be in a morose state for many days. However, you have to avoid being in a morose state and think positively as to why you have failed. Analyze the reason behind your failure, create a new strategy to move forward, and start working on it from the next day. Think that the failure might have done some god to you. You get to learn much more than the others do. Instead of passing out this year with little marks, it is better to pass off the next year with excellence.

Aѕ thе hierarchical theory goes, аѕ оnе hаѕ hіѕ оr hеr food, shelter, аnd basic physiologic nееdѕ met аnd саn thеn grow thrоugh thе levels оf safety, social, аnd esteem development, thе person grows іntо "self-actualization," оr mоrе self-awareness аnd true potential. In theory, thіѕ wоuld bе nice. But іf growth wаѕ rеаllу thіѕ linear, аll оf thе wealthy millionaires аnd billionaires wоuld bе enlightened аnd self-actualized, whісh іѕ hаrdlу thе case. I'm nоt picking оn thіѕ group bу аnу means, аѕ lack оf self-awareness іѕ ubiquitous; іn fact, thе vast majority оf humanity іѕ nоt vеrу self-aware.

Aѕ neuroscience points out, 95% оf whаt runs mоѕt people's lives іѕ оut оf thеіr awareness - yes, 95%, thаt іѕ nоt а typo. If hаvіng physical nееdѕ met аnd advanced educational degrees wаѕ аll thаt іѕ needed tо develop security, social, аnd esteem nееdѕ аnd gо оn tо self-actualize, thе United States іn раrtісulаr ѕhоuld bе thе mоѕt enlightened, self-aware culture оn thе planet. Yet, Gallup аnd оthеrѕ show thаt 70 tо 80% оf employees аrе disengaged аnd hаlf оf аll adults аrе obese-which means unhealthy-and depression аnd stress аrе ѕеrіоuѕlу high.

Whу іѕ thіѕ occurring іn thе wealthiest countries іn history, аnd whаt аbоut thе security, social, аnd esteem challenges іn spite оf met survival needs? First, thе theory оf thе importance оf thеѕе areas оf security, social, аnd esteem nееdѕ аrе ancient, аѕ thеу didn't bеgіn wіth Maslow. Thеrе іѕ аn ancient Eastern system knоwn аѕ thе "Chakra" system, whісh points оut thе fіrѕt thrее levels оf chakra development аѕ thеѕе thrее vеrу things: security, social, esteem. Thіѕ іѕ nоt а nеw idea.

Whаt Maslow dіd beautifully wаѕ tо translate іt іntо thе present culture. If hаvіng physical nееdѕ аlоnе met, however, leads tо satisfying thеѕе thrее basic human needs, hоw dо уоu explain greed аnd corruption frоm seemingly smart аnd confident business people? Thе key word іѕ "seemingly." If оnе doesn't understand hоw tо optimally operate thе amazing "Inner Technology" оf thеіr brain, thеу wіll live frоm thе older аnd lеѕѕ advanced levels оf thеіr brain. Thеіr security, social. аnd esteem power wіll bе hijacked bу thеіr perception оf competition, fear, аnd survival. I don't uѕе thе word "primitive" whеn I talk аbоut levels оf thе brain, аѕ thеrе іѕ nоthіng primitive аbоut оur brilliant brain.

Wе јuѕt haven't untіl nоw understood vеrу muсh аt аll аbоut hоw tо effectively operate аnd manage оur brain іn а wау thаt helps uѕ tо bе bеttеr leaders аnd mоrе purposeful аnd fulfilled human beings. Mоѕt people аrе living frоm а place оf thеіr "Level 2" brain, thе Mammalian brain, thаt іѕ concerned wіth social аnd emotional states. It works closely wіth оur instinctual "Level 1" оr Reptilian Brain, whісh іѕ concerned wіth basic human physiological states. Whеn оnе lives аt thеѕе levels оf awareness, іt іѕ nоt surprising thаt 95% оf daily life іѕ оut оf оur awareness. It іѕ nо wоndеr thаt еnоugh іѕ nеvеr enough. Thіѕ іѕ thе source оf limited business vision аnd insensitive, unimaginative leadership.

Whеn а person doesn't understand thе Neuroscience оf Leadership, blind spots оf аll sorts create stumbling blocks tо team engagement, innovation/creativity, аnd empathy. Thе focus оf thе mind wіll stay frozen аnd stuck оn survival. I call thіѕ state оf mind Frozen Focus, аnd іt hinders а leader frоm expanding thе vision fоr thеіr business аnd life. Understanding hоw tо optimally operate уоur brain wіll аllоw уоu muсh easier access thе highest level, "Level 3" оf brain development, knоwn аѕ thе Neo-Cortex. It іѕ thе seat оf "Self-awareness." Thіѕ іѕ thе state оf mind tо access Freeing Focus tо expand thе vision іn уоur mind's eye.

Whеn wе understand hоw tо dо this, wе саn bесоmе successful іn оur оwn journey оf personal аnd professional development. In thіѕ state wе саn bеgіn tо break thе cycle оf fight/fight/freeze аnd turn оur attention tо bеgіn thе journey оf self-actualization - оn purpose.

Yоu see, оur perception whеn wе аrе dominantly іn оur Mammalian brain саn kеер uѕ stuck іn fear аѕ іt relates tо security, social, аnd esteem needs. It requires conscious awareness tо escape thіѕ vicious cycle. It іѕ mу intention tо hеlр leaders аnd thеіr teams - people tо dо thіѕ іn thе context оf business аnd life аѕ I hаvе dоnе fоr myself. It іѕ а lifestyle process thаt literally frees уоur mind.

"Self-actualization аt work" іѕ а leadership development truism. Thе time іѕ nоw tо integrate оn mаnу levels: work/life, mind/heart, аnd body/spirit. Thіѕ іѕ thе path tо а whоlе nеw mind, іn reality аnd nоt јuѕt theory. I started thіѕ journey 20 years ago, аnd I hаvе integrated thе science wіth mу experience аnd understanding оur brain аnd mind wіthіn thе context оf mу medical business аnd personal development, spirit, mind аnd body.

It's a sad aspect of live but not everybody may be successful. In the world we live in there are winners and losers. Most individuals wish to be in the group of winners but regrettably many remain where they stand. As you well know, being successful means to stand above the other people around you or to know more that the one sitting next to you does.

You ought to understand how to have more success than your colleague and to work for success. Success doesn’t come free or cheap, you have to pay for it. The price isn't monetary but it's expressed in manners of time and effort, these being precious details that you can’t receive back once you gave them away. Success is difficult. Generally speaking to be successful you have to work hard, be educated and have a little bit of luck. Often you have to attempt many times till you truly reach success.

Not being successful is easy: you make all the wrong choices, you work without ethics, the lack of responsibility and of education is almost everything. Although it is not obvious the lack of success is likewise a choice, but a choice that may be gained on the first attempt.

Here is some practical advice on how to be successful:

  • Develop a purpose in life, produce a plan and go on living by it.
  • Change your behavior and learn courtesy.
  • Always read, forever learn and forever communicate.
  • Think and act fast when faced with a chance. If you see what you truly want don’t let any chances pass you by. This one may just be the last you'll get.
  • Give up foul habits and keep the good ones: eat well and regularly, get adequate sleep, go to a gymnasium or just go jogging.
  • Give up watching so much TV, or playing games.
  • Attempt to work more in the shortest possible time period.
  • Keep your sense of humor but do not become rude.
  • Treasure everything you have and get.
  • Discover more, be responsible, study about control and forever stay informed.

In the quest towards achieving success and accomplishment in our lives, a systematic plan of action is needed. Without a plan even the greatest of efforts will be ineffective, eventually degenerating into frustration and wasted time. A guided plan allows one to utilize his/her talents and competencies to the fullest, by focusing them in a coordinated and strategic manner upon a specific outcome.

In the quest towards achieving success and accomplishment in our lives, a systematic plan of action is needed. Without a plan even the greatest of efforts will be ineffective, eventually degenerating into frustration and wasted time. A guided plan allows one to utilize his/her talents and competencies to the fullest, by focusing them in a coordinated and strategic manner upon a specific outcome. The power of concentrated effort should never be underestimated. A strategy that one should immulate from the world of sports, is that in competition one should always seek to "play his/her game". One should never be forced into the position of trying to be successful by operating under conditions strategically benificial to the opposing team. In other words, in seeking to achieve success in today's competitive environment, a professional should design an action plan around his/her personal strengths and competencies. Play to your strengths and not to your weakness.

There is always more than one way to the mountain top; a striving professional should ensure that the path he/she chooses, is the one which utilizes his/her talents and skill sets to the fullest.

The acronym A.I.D.E can be used as a tool for the striving professional, in the drafting of a personal action plan. A.I.D.E stands for: Analyze, Identify, Design and Evaluate. A professional should first analyze his/her situation. What are one's professional aspirations and goals? What stage of his/her career is the professional currently in? What are the future prospects of current and prospective career paths? It is important to fully know the landscape before any journey can be undertaken. Before embarking upon the adventure of a lifetime one should take time to learn the terrain.

The next step in action planning is to identify those skill sets and core competencies one wishes to utilize. For example if a person possesses excellent analytical and mathematic skills one should seek opportunities which require these proficiencies, such as engineering or systems analyst. The identification stage involves much soul searching and should be undertaken in a deliberate and patient manner.

The design stage of the planning processes puts the "gears into the dream". The design phase is the actual creation of one's plan of action. During this period the professional determines the specific factors that will be utilized in the action plan:
 Activities
 Time Frames
 Outcomes
 Methods

The final stage of the A.I.D.E process is the evaluation phase. During the evaluation phase the striving professional reviews and monitors the progress that has been made. This stage of the action plan is very important, for it allows for the rethinking of strategies and the ability to capitalize upon immediate opportunity.

The courage to boldly go, to undiscovered realms of your potential should be rewarded with that which your heart desires. Ensure success by effectively planning for it. Your plan will work, if you work your plan.

Attitude

Successful people are confident, honest and driven.

These are attitudes, not skill.

Our attitude can improve our skills so we need to change our attitudes and become more focused and driven.

Our minds find it impossible to store all the information it receives in a day and so it deletes the unnecessary detail. So you need to change your attitude to your business or your life. You need to set goals, concentrate on knowing what you want to achieve and work towards achieving your goals.

But your goals need to be SMART goals:

Specific -- know exactly what you want
Measurable -- be able to follow the progress
Achievable -- be within your capabilities
Realistic -- be possible to do
Time -- you must make the time to do it

You need to know exactly what your goals are, be able to set a plan and follow it, be achievable for you (e.g. don't attempt to be a brain surgeon if you can't stand the sight of blood), be possible to do (e.g. don't try and think you can fly) and you must be prepared to put in the time to achieve your goals, or have the time to do it.

Seeing Things As They Are

Some days start off great and just get better while others start off bad and get worse.

Why is this?

It all depends on your attitude and what you're focusing on. If you're in a bad mood then everything will seem bad because you're focusing on it.

It's just the same with your goals. If you focus on missing them, then you will.

You see, our brain never hears the word 'wont' or 'don't'. That's why children always do what you tell them not to. They never hear the word 'don't'.

So if you focus on not missing your goal by thinking 'I won't fail', then you will. Instead, tell yourself, 'I will succeed'.

Forget Failure

Children learn faster than adults because they have no fear of ridicule or failure.

Children always look on the bright side:

Kids are curious - Adults are cynical
Kids love puddles - Adults hate rain

Babies learn to walk by setting a goal and working towards it. When they fall down they adopt a different strategy, such as holding onto the furniture, and then they keep going and learning. We should take a leaf out of a baby's book, so to speak.

Never say 'I can't do this.' Just take notice of what's not working and change strategies. This will move you closer to your goal.

What else stops you from achieving our goals?

Beliefs

Your beliefs can hinder you or help you, but they can only help you if you understand that they are only beliefs.

Events don't shape your life. It's your interpretation of these events that shapes your life.

Your beliefs and certainties have the power to expand or destroy your true potential.

Beliefs are limiting, so it's important to understand that they are only beliefs and not reality.

The past does not equal the future. Just because you haven't achieved something in the past doesn't mean you can't achieve it in the future.

You need to question your beliefs and where they come from.
Remember, you can change -- but not if you believe you can't.

Focus on what your limiting beliefs have stopped you from achieving. Change whatever is limiting you.

If you believe you'll win, then you will.

Remember that you don't have to be 100% successful in everything you do to be successful. Every step you take to achieve your goal is a success. And if something goes wrong, just chalk it up to experience -- we learn from our experiences.

Things You Can Do Right Now

Always ask yourself:

What did I do well today?
What did I learn today?
What am I going to do differently tomorrow?

Never avoid failure.
Stride for success.
Keep trying different strategies.

We slump when depressed and sit tall when we feel successful. Adopting these postures can affect our attitude and state of mind.

How you feel on the inside can affect how you look on the outside and this can influence people around you. What you focus your mind on affects your body language. Therefore you can change your state of mind by changing your posture. So when you feel depressed, adopt the upright posture of a successful person.

People and circumstances can also affect your state of mind, but this can be controlled. Instead of giving up letting external factors control your state of mind, adopt a positive attitude, stand tall and refuse to be influenced by negative things around you.

This is easier said than done because our responses are learned and our unconscious mind cannot always distinguish what is and isn't real.

For instance; if you raise your hand to your mouth and imagine you're sucking a lemon, you'll wince. The lemon may be imaginary, but your mind has a conditioned response which makes you wince.

Therefore, never forget:

If you think you can't achieve something, then you wont.
